Shennongjia
Mountain Forests and Skiing in Central China
UNESCO‑listed wilderness in Hubei
Shennongjia, in north‑western Hubei, is a high‑mountain region covered with dense forests and deep valleys, recognized as a UNESCO Natural World Heritage Site for its outstanding biodiversity. It protects the largest remaining area of primary forest in central China and provides habitat for rare species such as the Golden Snub‑nosed Monkey, Chinese Giant Salamander and Asian Black Bear.
If you’re looking to add a “wild” mountain stop to your Hubei journey, Shennongjia offers cooler air, winding mountain roads, small forest villages and sweeping views from peaks rising above 3,000 m.
